An extensive renovation and extension to a Lower North Shore dwelling completely transforms a bland brick single storey home into a Hamptons inspired dream home.
The design incorporates a new first floor subtly concealed within the roof line externally, with a light funnel above the entry and formal living area with a series of passages to the sky that allows natural light to flow down through the stories and form interesting play son light and shadow. The old and the new parts of the dwelling are interconnected through materials externally, with cladding and render chosen to explore the design brief of Hamptons inspired living.
The existing single dwelling housed three bedrooms all on the lower floor, and the new house contains 5 large bedrooms, a study, three bathrooms, informal and formal living and dining spaces, a rumpus room, as well as spacious Master Suite.
The high pitched roof allows for a play of light internally on the upper floor, with large gable windows and skylights penetrating the internal roof line. Storage is a plenty making clever use of the pitch of the roof and the space between the walls internally and floor plate. The design evolved into a charismatic, beautiful home that the owners have fallen in love with. The transformation of this home is quite extraordinary.
