This project involved conceptual massing, creating a stacking effect of the floor plates to ensure compliance with the site coverage controls of the block.
The site and local council provided further challenges with the strict heritage conservation area controls.
The design evolved into a layered proposal, creating internal voids, mezzanine, and light wells. This layered technique was a successful approach in integrating the 4 levels of the home.
The external material constraints imposed on the design meant the exploration of a traditional material used in a contemporary fashion.
The result is a contemporary, stylish home with a complex yet open floor plan. The intertwining of levels, voids and visually interesting aspects of the home creates a diverse palette of materials and play of light.
